Upcoming Nacha rule change for 2023

Nacha has rolled out its 2023 ACH Operating Rules and Guidelines. There's only one change happening this year - Phase 2 of the Micro-Entries Rule takes effect March 17! Here are the details:

    • March 17, 2023 | Phase 2: micro-entries
Originators of Micro-Entries will be required to use commercially reasonable fraud detection, including the monitoring of Micro-Entry forward and return volumes
    • September 16, 2022 | Phase 1: micro-entries
The Micro-Entry Rule defines and standardizes practice and formatting of Micro-Entries, which are used by some ACH Originators as a method of account validation.

Brand new in 2022: upcoming Nacha rule changes

The roll out of Nacha's 2022 ACH operating rules will commence soon – with the first new rule change taking effect just next week! Here's a brief look at what lies ahead:

    • March 18, 2022 | Same Day ACH dollar limit increase
Implementation of this rule will increase the Same Day maximum dollar amount per entry from $100,000 to $1,000,000.
    • June 30, 2022 | Phase 2: Supplementing data security requirements
This rule will require non-consumer Originators, Third-Party Service Providers and Third-Party Senders – with an annual ACH volume of 2 million transactions or greater – to render account numbers unreadable when stored electronically.
    • September 16, 2022 | Phase 1: micro-entries
The first of this two-part rule change mandates that all credit Micro-Entries be made in an amount of less than $1.00, and debit Micro-Entries, in total, not exceed the amount of its corresponding credit Micro-Entry. The rule will also require Originators to use the standard Company Entry Description, "ACCTVERIFY."
*Phase 2 will take effect March 2023
